WGA: The Video

For all of you audio and visual learners out there, the following is a great video that summarizes (and adds some new information to) the interview that I did a few days ago regarding the striking writers' guild.  It is 3:50 long and well worth the time if you want to understand why the strike is happening.  (RSS readers go to the original post to see the video).

Did You Feel It Too?

Did you feel the shift in the economy over the last 12 hours?  I did.  Two major things happened:

First, the writer's guild has gone on strike.  This is not good for the entertainment industry.  "Boo hoo," you say, "I don't care".  Well you should care, especially if you live in Southern California.  This will dramatically impact the regional economy, and if it lasts a long time, you will feel it in other areas.  I am hoping to put up an interview with somebody inside the guild soon.

Second, Google has announced that it is creating an open source social networking standard.  "Boo hoo," you say, "I have no idea what you are talking about".  Are you on Facebook?  Me too. I think they are in big trouble in the wake of this announcement.  Are you on Orkut?  I know, you've never heard of it...but you will soon.  You need to find a way to sign up, it will become the new normal for social networking very, very quickly. This is a major coupe, and the online community will feel it.  If you need an invite let me know in the comments section.

Apple just rolled out some security upgrades for the ultra-coveted iPhone.  Things aren't going very well for users of this new patch.

The savants that unlocked the phone to use on networks outside of AT&T now have $600 bricks.  It seems that the new upgrades "likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable."

Robert Scoble is reporting that even peoplo without unlocked phones are having problems.

In other news, Halo 3 walked all over entertainment industry records for opening day sales.  Seems the video games have a little more pull than movies.

For those keeping score at home, here is today's tally: Microsoft 1, Apple 0.

New Derek Webb Release

Derekwebb Derek Webb played at Sunset last year, along with Jars of Clay and Sara Groves.  I got the news today that his latest release just came out called "One Zero".  For fans of Derek you'll want to check this out...and I know there are A LOT of you out there.

What's so cool is that Derek gets it.  His music is available in stores and via download.  WTG, Derek!

Casino Royale 007

ICasinoroyale  went and saw Casino Royale yesterday.  I was a bit gun shy (no pun intended) about checking out the latest James Bond flick...I really had a very poor impression of them after Pierce Brosnan sissified Bond for the past few shows.  I had also read on Drudge about a year ago that the new bond was essentially a blond-haired, blue-eyed girly man.  The actor was hurt the first week on the set.  So I had some bias going into the show.

I was blown away!  This is the greatest Bond flick, IMHO, since Connery graced the character.  The movie was longer than I expected (with all of the info available these days why don't I just look up the movie length before I go see it?) and came in a little over 2 1/2 hours.  However, I was glued to the screen the entire time.

For the amount of action involved I was surprised at how clean the movie was.  I think there was only one swear word, the bond ladies kept their clothes on, and the sexual innuendos were few and far between.  There was very little use of gadgetry, and I actually appreciated this...it had been worn thin recently I think.

I found it interesting that Bond now plays Hold 'Em instead of traditional poker.  Way to stay with the times, James. Throughout James is the confident, strong, bad Bond that I think I've always known he could be.  It's nice to see Bond with some cajones for once.  Speaking of cajones, there is this brutal scene where he is strapped to an old wicker chair and...well, ouch.  You'll have to see for yourself.  It just hurts to watch.  Everyone in the audience was flinching in their seats during this part.  Bond delivers some of the best I'm-so-much-tougher-than-you-can-even-imagine dialogue during this part.  Brilliant.

Overall I give this movie an 'A'.  Two thumbs up.  100%.  You really need to go see this movie in the theaters.  Go see it this weekend so that box office numbers will spike and maybe down the road director Martin Campbell will produce more quality action flicks and less stupid, girly man one-liners (like his previous Bond attempt 'GoldenEye').
